Matt Werner

Matt Werner’s sculpting is an encore career. He has a Ph.D. from Penn State and a lengthy career as an environmental and groundwater geologist. His sculptural snapshots are meant to remind us that life, and people in particular, are engaging, amusing, beautiful, noble and joyous.

The title “Inherently” comes from the Brown vs. Board of Education decision and reflects the artist’s view about the school-to-prison pipeline. Black Americans are 13 percent of the population but make up 40 percent of the prison population. Werner believes the “war on drugs,” mandatory minimums, and “three-strikes” sentencing policies have criminalized black people disproportionately. Title: Inherently Medium: sculpture/wood Size: 20 x 17 x 12 Year of Creation: 2016 Price $7,300 For sales inquiries, please contact mbannon@herbergertheater.org
