Deborah McCullough

As a volunteer for the past fifteen years with Tucson Samaritans and No More Deaths, Deborah Mccullough has walked the desert south of Tucson looking to help people who are lost or left behind. Along those trails, she has found elements that speak to their humanity, their dreams, and expectations.

The items in Time Stopped were found along migrant trails in the desert south of Arivaca, Arizona. When the artist finds shoes, she wonders how the traveler continued on. Swollen, blistered feet can cause someone to fall behind a group and be abandoned, and too often lead to death. When a Samaritan found the woman’s watch, McCullough thought about the endless hours of walking and endless fear of detection. Did she survive or did time stop for her? Title: Time Stopped Medium: found can, shoe, watch Dimensions: 12 x 8 Year of Creation: 2018 This art is not for sale.
